faith….

As i started feeling disheartened by my challenges in trying to live a fully independent life in a car-dependent town, my vulnerability has opened my eyes to see how present God is throughout my trials and tribulations.

While I watched my one year old hold onto her dad’s hands as her little feet reached forward to prepare for her launch into taking her first step (with the only thing taking her back being the fear of letting go), I couldn’t help but think how this is just like how faith works.  We hold onto our fears, with our feet desperate to move forward but paralysed in the same spot.

But as her brothers sat in front with their hands wide open encouraging her to step towards them, ready to catch her into their embrace, the message was clear.  God is there, He is, and is always present.  He is there waiting for us, ready for us to come to Him and into His embrace.  And all we have to do is take that leap of faith and trust that even if our feet may fail, we will always fall into His hands.

It is up to us to take that first step because faith is about trusting and being bold especially when you are uncertain.  It means following that voice in your heart that tells you to go forward even when you are afraid of falling.  And it means keeping your focus on the One who promises to light your path and be there to take hold of your right hand.

We cannot have faith when we let fear take a hold of us. And we cannot overcome fear without faith.

Isaiah 41:13 (NIV)

For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.

And you know what the most beautiful part of believing is?  It is that He will never leave us or forsake us. He will always be there to rescue us – His children.  And just like a child, we must not let anything hold us back. We must take those steps forward, even if they are only baby steps.

Matthew 18:2 (MSG)

For an answer Jesus called over a child, whom he stood in the middle of the room, and said, “I’m telling you, once and for all, that unless you return to square one and start over like children, you’re not even going to get a look at the kingdom, let alone get in. Whoever becomes simple and elemental again, like this child, will rank high in God’s kingdom. What’s more, when you receive the childlike on my account, it’s the same as receiving me.
